For the first time, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide CyberKnife and PET scan facilities for cancer patients in the province.
According to details, the CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery and PET/CT scan facilities will be made available at Hayatabad Medical Complex. Until now, due to the absence of PET scan facilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cancer patients were forced to travel to Karachi and other provinces for treatment.
Provincial Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali stated that proposals have already been invited from companies for the project. He said this historic step will mark the beginning of a new era in cancer treatment in the province and will fill a longstanding gap.
Ehtesham Ali further said that cancer patients in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will no longer need to travel to other cities for diagnosis and treatment. Every year, more than 11,700 new cancer cases are reported in the province, making this facility a timely and lifesaving initiative.
He added that the CyberKnife system will provide non surgical and highly precise radiosurgery for complex and inoperable tumors, while the PET/CT scan will enable timely diagnosis, accurate staging, and effective treatment planning for patients.
