Sources have revealed that the Government of Pakistan faces the risk of COVID-19 vaccines worth millions being wasted.
According to sources in the Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI), the last batch of COVID-19 vaccines in federal stock is at risk of expiring. The FDI has written a letter to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) regarding the matter.
Sources stated that the NCOC has been informed about the vaccine situation. The vaccines stored at the Federal Directorate’s warehouse are set to expire next month.
According to details, over 5,000 doses of Pfizer-manufactured COVID-19 vaccines are currently stored in the FDI warehouse.
The expiring stock of vaccines is valued at more than Rs. 25 million. However, the NCOC has not yet responded to the FDI regarding the matter, and a decision will be made once instructions are received.
Meanwhile, sources said that due to declining demand for COVID-19 vaccination, the supply to provinces could not be carried out.
