OKARA – September 6, 2025:
Federal Minister for Water Resources, Mian Mueen Wattoo, has assured that the government is fully committed to compensating people affected by the recent floods. He said damage assessment surveys are already underway, and the authorities will provide financial assistance not only for rebuilding but also to help farmers prepare for the next sowing season.
Speaking to reporters in Okara, Wattoo revealed that the Federal Flood Commission has been tasked with preparing ground-level water storage plans to reduce the impact of future floods. “We are working on practical proposals to mitigate the risks of recurring disasters,” he added.
The minister emphasized the need for large-scale planning to counter climate challenges, including the construction of new dams, improved water storage mechanisms, and extensive tree plantation campaigns. He also urged citizens to avoid construction along riverbanks, saying public awareness was vital to reducing future risks.
Meanwhile, after India issued a flood warning, a high alert has been declared in districts adjoining the Sutlej River. Authorities have stepped up monitoring and precautionary measures in vulnerable areas.
