Former Federal Minister Dr Zafar Mirza has expressed serious concern over the increasing cases of HIV in the country, saying that HIV is becoming a serious situation in the country.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he said that the reuse of contaminated syringes and lack of proper screening before blood transfusion are major causes of the spread of this disease.
According to Dr Zafar Mirza, the increase in HIV cases among children is a particularly alarming trend, and overall the disease is taking a serious situation in the country.
He said that the rise of HIV and other diseases reflects weaknesses in the health system.
He said that complete screening of blood before transfusion is essential to prevent deadly diseases. Regarding hepatitis C, he said that along with Pakistan, India and China are also among the affected countries.
Dr Zafar Mirza also clarified that the health sector in Pakistan has not been fully privatized so far and comprehensive measures are needed to improve the health system.
