The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan DRAP has ordered strict enforcement of the ban on reused syringes.

‎According to federal officials, 2,108 HIV cases among children have been reported in Pakistan over the past 15 months, after which DRAP has directed the launch of a nationwide market survey against banned syringes.

‎Federal officials stated that the ban on conventional disposable syringes of 2 ml and 5 ml remains in place, with a complete ban on the import and manufacture of such syringes effective since 31 July 2021, while consideration has also begun on imposing restrictions on the possible misuse of 10 ml syringes.

‎According to officials, DRAP’s National Task Force has been assigned the task of conducting a nationwide survey and identifying violations.

‎According to DRAP, the Medical Devices Board has cancelled all registrations of conventional syringes, and strict action has been ordered against the sale of illegal syringes in the market. All provincial drug control authorities have been directed to take immediate action and submit survey reports to DRAP by 27 April.
