Humberto has intensified into a Category 1 hurricane, while the remnants of Tropical Storm Gabrielle are bringing heavy rains and strong winds to the Azores islands, raising concerns over flooding and coastal surges

Humberto’s winds have reached up to 75 mph (120 km/h), making it a fully formed hurricane.

Gabrielle, though weakened, is still producing widespread rainfall and dangerous storm surges in the Azores.

Local authorities have issued flood and marine warnings, urging residents to stay alert and avoid coastal areas.

Flights and ferry services in parts of the Azores have been disrupted due to rough seas and strong winds.

The Azores, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, often lie in the path of tropical systems that transition into post-tropical storms.

Humberto rapidly gained strength due to warm ocean waters and favorable atmospheric conditions.

Gabrielle had already weakened before reaching the Azores, but the storm still carried enough energy to cause heavy rainfall and localized flooding.

Meteorologists expect Humberto to move further out into the Atlantic, posing no direct threat to the U.S. mainland but possibly generating dangerous rip currents along the East Coast.

Emergency services in the Azores are monitoring the situation, with damage assessments planned once conditions improve.
