Imran Khan Seeks IHC Nod for Monthly Tests at Shaukat Khanum

PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking permission to undergo monthly medical tests at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital. The petition, submitted through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, urges the court to allow full medical access to him inside Adiala Jail.

According to the plea, Imran requires regular check-ups due to his medical history, and Shaukat Khanum the hospital he founded is best equipped to provide specialised care. The petition also asks the court to ensure that medical teams can examine him freely and share monthly reports with his family and the court.

The Punjab Home Department secretary, IG Prisons, Adiala Jail superintendent, Medical Superintendent and Shaukat Khanum Hospital have been made respondents in the case.

The petition claims that Imran Khan suffers from certain ongoing health issues and argues that his conviction was the result of “political victimisation” by the current government. It asserts that fair treatment and improved medical facilities are essential for him.

A day earlier, Imran’s sister Dr Uzma Khanum met him at Adiala Jail after weeks of waiting. Following the 37-minute meeting, she told reporters that he was physically stable and recovering. However, she said he complained of being isolated, denied regular meetings, and subjected to “mental torture,” which he described as worse than physical hardship.

Dr Uzma added that Imran was disturbed after hearing about alleged mistreatment of Noreen Khan and the solitary confinement of Bushra Bibi. She also said he expressed respect for TTAP leaders Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, calling them true opposition figures.

Meanwhile, Imran’s sister Aleema Khan has filed a contempt petition accusing Adiala Jail authorities of defying an IHC order that allows family meetings. The move follows rising tensions outside the jail, where CM Afridi and PTI lawmakers recently staged an overnight sit in after being denied access to Imran for the eighth consecutive time.

Aleema’s petition names the Adiala Jail superintendent, Saddar Beroni SHO, the federal interior secretary, and the Punjab home secretary as respondents. Earlier, Aleema and CM Afridi visited the IHC seeking a meeting with the chief justice but were told he “did not want to meet them,” according to Afridi.
