India’s men’s hockey team pulled off a commanding performance on Wednesday, defeating South Korea 4-1 in the Asia Cup 2025 final to reclaim the continental crown after an eight-year wait. The victory not only ended a long title drought but also sealed India’s direct qualification for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.

The match, held in Kuala Lumpur, showcased India’s attacking depth and defensive discipline. Captain Harmanpreet Singh led from the front with a crucial goal, while the forward line kept up relentless pressure that broke down South Korea’s resistance. By halftime, India had already stamped authority with a two-goal cushion, and in the second half, they widened the gap to seal the win comfortably.

Coach Craig Fulton praised the team’s resilience and fighting spirit, pointing out that the squad had worked tirelessly to overcome past disappointments. “This was about self-belief and consistency,” Fulton said. “The boys showed character, and now the focus shifts to preparing for the World Cup.”

For captain Harmanpreet Singh, the triumph carried an emotional touch. He dedicated the win to those affected by recent floods back home and saluted the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army for their rescue efforts. “We wanted to give our people something to cheer about,” Harmanpreet remarked. “This is for them.”

The title marks India’s first Asia Cup triumph since 2017 and reaffirms the team’s position as a regional powerhouse. More importantly, the win ensures India won’t have to go through the qualifying rounds for the 2026 World Cup, giving the squad valuable time and focus to build momentum for the global stage.

With the drought finally broken, fans and analysts alike see this as a turning point for Indian hockey — a revival rooted in grit, strategy, and a renewed hunger for glory.
