JAKARTA: Indonesian authorities have arrested former top anti-corruption prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah after investigators seized around $19 million in various currencies and 74 kilograms of gold bars from properties linked to him.

Adriansyah, who previously served as Indonesia’s Assistant Attorney General for Special Crimes, is facing allegations related to money laundering and corruption. He stepped down from his position on July 11 after police raids on at least 12 locations in and around Jakarta, including properties connected to him.

The seized assets reportedly included cash in Indonesian rupiah, US dollars, Singapore dollars and Saudi riyals, along with 74kg of gold bars. Authorities have been investigating suspected corruption and money laundering linked to several cases, including alleged irregularities involving coal procurement for the state electricity utility.

Indonesian investigators questioned 15 witnesses during the operation, while officials said further suspects could be announced. Authorities are also examining the origin and ownership of the seized money and gold.

Adriansyah has denied wrongdoing and reportedly claimed that he was being “criminalised.” His lawyer has called for the legal process to be conducted fairly. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations have yet to be proven in court.

The case has attracted significant attention in Indonesia because Adriansyah had been one of the country’s senior prosecutors handling major corruption investigations. It has also raised concerns over potential conflicts of interest in the investigation and calls for a transparent legal process.
