The international aid mission “Global Sumud Flotilla,” en route to Gaza, has accused the Israeli navy of attempting to obstruct its passage in international waters. According to the organizers, unidentified naval vessels approached the flotilla during the night, while communication systems onboard were reportedly disrupted.
Participants claim that drones were seen flying overhead, allegedly releasing tear gas or other chemical agents near some of the vessels. No casualties have been reported so far.
Israeli authorities have dismissed the allegations, labeling the flotilla a “security threat” and asserting that it will not be allowed to breach the naval blockade on Gaza. Officials indicated that the ships could be seized and redirected to the port of Ashdod if necessary.
Comprising over 500 activists from various countries, the mission includes human rights campaigners and pro-peace delegates. Organizers maintain that their effort is strictly humanitarian, aimed at delivering aid and peacefully challenging the blockade.
Legal experts have warned that the use of force against the flotilla in international waters could constitute a violation of maritime law. Human rights organizations have called on the United Nations to intervene urgently.
