The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi has launched a formal inquiry into allegations of research data manipulation, confirming the formation of a three-member committee to investigate the matter. The move follows internal reports suggesting that clinical data linked to recent research output was misrepresented.

Executive Director JPMC Dr. Shahid Rasool confirmed the committee’s mandate on Tuesday. The panel includes senior faculty members tasked with reviewing the integrity of the data in question and determining whether established research protocols were bypassed.

The investigation centers on a series of clinical studies conducted within the hospital’s research wing. Critics within the medical community have voiced concerns that the alleged discrepancies could compromise the facility’s academic standing and lead to the retraction of published findings. “We are looking into the veracity of the claims,” a senior hospital official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“If the data was indeed tampered with, the implications for the hospital’s research credibility are significant.” The committee is expected to cross-reference raw patient records against the published statistics.

They have been given a seven-day window to submit their findings. This is not the first time the premier public health institution has faced scrutiny over administrative and academic oversight. While the JPMC remains a cornerstone of medical training in Sindh, this inquiry marks a rare instance where the institution has publicly acknowledged potential internal misconduct regarding scientific integrity.

The hospital administration has declined to name the researchers involved, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Whether this committee produces a transparent resolution or follows the pattern of previous departmental probes remains the central question for the medical staff.

The committee’s report will determine if the matter remains an internal disciplinary issue or if it escalates to a legal review by the provincial health department.
