An 18 year old man from Chaman was brought to Indus Hospital Karachi for treatment after being infected with rabies.
This was stated by Dr Aftab Gohar, in charge of the Rabies Clinic at Indus Hospital, who said that the youth had been bitten by a dog around six weeks ago.
He said that the youth was given unverified injections by a local doctor and was neither administered the full rabies vaccine nor was his wound properly cleaned.
Dr Aftab Gohar said that a few days ago the youth started experiencing pain in the wound and changes in his mental condition, and upon arrival at the hospital he was found to be suffering from hydrophobia and aerophobia.
The head of the Rabies Clinic further said that when the patient’s family was informed about the disease and its consequences, they refused to admit him to the hospital and took him back home.
