KARACHI — Investigators have shifted the focus of the Mir Raza Ali murder case, moving beyond initial theories to examine potential financial motives and internal disputes within the victim’s close circle.

The investigation, led by the District South police, hit a new gear Tuesday after digital forensic reports surfaced. Investigators recovered encrypted messages from Ali’s personal devices that suggest he had been embroiled in a high-stakes disagreement regarding property holdings in the city’s upscale neighborhoods.

“We are no longer looking at this as a simple street crime,” a lead investigator told reporters on the condition of anonymity. “The nature of the evidence points toward a premeditated act, potentially involving individuals Ali knew and trusted.”

The victim, a well-known local figure, was gunned down in an ambush late last week while driving home. Police initially treated the incident as a botched robbery, but the lack of missing valuables at the scene quickly forced a shift in strategy.

The case has drawn sharp criticism from local advocacy groups, who argue that Karachi’s law enforcement remains reactive rather than proactive. The victim’s family, meanwhile, has publicly demanded a judicial inquiry, alleging that local police may have been compromised by outside influence.

The police department denies these claims. They’ve now formed a specialized task force, pulling in officers from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to assist with the digital trail.

As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests have been made. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from three separate private security cameras along the victim’s route, hoping to identify a silver sedan seen idling near the crime scene minutes before the shooting.

With the investigation now crossing into the realm of corporate and personal vendettas, the coming days will determine whether the task force can unmask a suspect or if the case will join the growing list of unsolved high-profile killings in the city.
