A student in Karachi has accused police officials of subjecting him to short-term abduction and extortion.
The student, identified as Hasnain, alleged that three police mobile units from Sukhan police station arrived at his residence and took him into custody, later demanding Rs1 million for his release.
According to Hasnain, police personnel identified as Jabbar and his associate Noora allegedly accepted Rs50,000 and released him around 6:00 am. He further claimed that his personal belongings are still being held at the police station and that officers are now demanding an additional Rs100,000 for their return.
Responding to the allegations, police officials stated that the complainant may visit the police station to retrieve his belongings. Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has taken notice of the matter and ordered an inquiry, assigning the investigation to the SSP Malir.
