Karachi (Staff Reporter):
A three-storey residential building collapsed in Karachi’s Orangi Town area of Mominabad on Wednesday evening, leaving several people injured and sparking a major rescue operation.
According to rescue officials, four people have so far been pulled out of the debris in injured condition and shifted to a nearby hospital. Authorities fear that more people may still be trapped under the rubble as the search and rescue work continues.
Eyewitnesses said the structure was old and visibly dilapidated, with deep cracks that worsened after recent rains. Local residents claimed they had repeatedly warned about the dangerous condition of the building but no preventive action was taken.
Police and Rangers have cordoned off the site to facilitate rescue operations, while heavy machinery has been brought in to clear the debris. Residents of the neighborhood are also assisting rescue teams in the search efforts.
The incident has once again raised concerns over unsafe and poorly maintained buildings in Karachi. Citizens are urging the city administration to conduct an immediate survey of all dilapidated structures in the metropolis to prevent further tragedies.
