A 45-year-old motorcyclist died in Lahore on Tuesday following an alleged physical confrontation with a traffic warden, sparking immediate outrage among local residents and his grieving family. The incident occurred near the busy Ferozepur Road intersection, an area notorious for its chaotic traffic flow.

Witnesses claim the altercation began over a minor traffic violation. According to bystanders, the warden attempted to stop the man, leading to a heated verbal exchange that escalated into a physical struggle. The victim, identified as Muhammad Aslam, reportedly fell and struck his head against the pavement after being pushed.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Preliminary reports suggest the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, though police are awaiting a full autopsy report to confirm the sequence of events.

The death has triggered a swift reaction. As news of the incident spread, a crowd gathered at the scene, blocking traffic for nearly three hours while demanding the immediate arrest of the officer involved. The protesters accused the warden of excessive force, alleging that such heavy-handed tactics have become routine for traffic police in the city.

In response, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore suspended the warden and ordered an internal inquiry. “We have initiated a departmental investigation to establish the facts,” the CTO said in a brief statement to the press. He confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the officer on charges of assault and manslaughter.

This incident is not an isolated one; it highlights growing public frustration with police conduct in Punjab. Human rights activists argue that a lack of accountability for field officers often leads to such tragedies. For the family of Muhammad Aslam, however, the inquiry offers little comfort. His brother, speaking to reporters outside the hospital, dismissed the departmental inquiry as a delay tactic, demanding that the officer be prosecuted in a criminal court immediately.

The police have cordoned off the area as forensic teams collect evidence, including CCTV footage from nearby storefronts. As the investigation continues, the incident has left the city’s traffic police force under intense scrutiny, with the public demanding clearer protocols on how officers handle routine stops.
