LAHORE – A sessions court in Lahore has sentenced a man to death for murdering a mosque cleric during a dispute. Additional Sessions Judge Riaz Ahmed awarded the death penalty to convict Ghulam Muhammad along with a fine of Rs1 million.
According to the prosecution, Hadiara police registered a murder case against the accused in 2020. Prosecutor Habibur Rehman Bhatti presented witnesses before the court, who testified that the convict shot cleric Qari Usman at his doorstep when he stepped out for the Maghrib call to prayer.
The court observed that the killing was linked to a financial dispute and ruled that the prosecution had successfully established its case. Based on the evidence, the convict was declared guilty and handed capital punishment.
