The Ministry of Health organized a Safety Medicine Ceremony, where Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal delivered an important address.
In his speech, the Federal Health Minister said that the medicine system in Pakistan is not ideal and needs improvement. We want to ensure the welfare and well being of the people. The world is moving toward lifestyle medicine, where treatments are provided without drugs. The time for merely complaining about hospital issues has passed, he said.
He added that patients are being treated in hospitals, but healthcare itself is not improving. Criticizing government institutions will not save patients’ lives. We must move toward a proper healthcare system and away from a diseased one. Around 70% of illnesses in our country spread due to the lack of clean drinking water, he emphasized.
The Minister further stated that the world is conducting experiments on medicines to prevent cancer, but when the world eliminates deaths from cancer, Pakistan will still lose people to this disease because religious debates over whether medicines are halal or haram often lead to bans on their use.
He added that millions of people in Pakistan are dying from various diseases, and around 10,000 mothers die every year during childbirth. Unfortunately, Pakistan now ranks first in the world for hepatitis cases, he said.
The Minister noted that Pakistan is unfortunately leading in hepatitis cases, and that the government is taking effective measures to ensure the availability of vaccines. He said that vaccines worth 500 billion rupees are used annually, while $1 billion is spent on vaccine imports.
