Mismanagement in Jinnah Hospital Radiology Department Leaves Patients Waiting for Hours

KARACHI: Patients and their attendants continue to suffer due to severe mismanagement and negligence in the radiology department of Jinnah Hospital Karachi, one of the country’s largest public-sector hospitals.

According to details, the daughter of a senior journalist was admitted to the hospital’s emergency ward two nights back. Doctors recommended an urgent ultrasound, but the patient was informed that the procedure would only be carried out the following morning. After waiting for more than five hours the next day, the family was once again told to return the next morning for the test.

Families of patients expressed frustration, alleging that favoritism and influence were widespread in the radiology department. They claimed that those with personal connections were given priority, while ordinary patients, including those in critical condition, were left to wait for hours without timely care.

This mismanagement has not only caused distress among patients but also eroded public trust in the hospital’s ability to provide fair and efficient medical services. Families have urged the Sindh Government and the hospital administration to take immediate action to improve transparency, accountability, and service delivery in the radiology department.

When contacted for comment, Executive Director of JPMC Prof. Dr. Shahid Rasul, a surgeon currently serving in an administrative role, and the hospital’s Public Relations Officer Mr. Jahangir Durrani, did not respond.

The incident has raised serious questions about the functioning of radiology services at Jinnah Hospital and the urgent need for reforms to ensure equitable healthcare access for all patients.
