Australian fast-bowling superstar Mitchell Starc is set to make a long-awaited return to the Big Bash League (BBL), joining Babar Azam at the Sydney Sixers for the upcoming BBL 15 season.
The Sixers officially confirmed the signing, announcing,
“After 11 seasons, Mitch Starc is back in magenta.”
Starc’s comeback comes after his retirement from T20 International cricket, which now allows him to focus on franchise leagues. The 34-year-old speedster last appeared in the BBL during the 2014–15 season, where he took 20 wickets in just 10 matches at an impressive average of 14.85.
According to team officials, Starc is expected to join the Sixers after the Ashes series, meaning he will likely be available for the second half of the tournament, including the playoffs.
With his inclusion, the Sydney Sixers’ lineup—already featuring the likes of Babar Azam, Steve Smith, and Josh Hazlewood—looks even stronger heading into the new season.
Starc’s presence is expected to provide the Sixers with not just world-class pace, but also valuable experience and leadership for the high-stakes matches ahead.
The BBL 15 season kicks off on December 14, with the Sydney Sixers opening their campaign against the Perth Scorchers.
