Mohammad Rizwan Joins Babar, Malik in Elite T20 Milestone

Mohammad Rizwan has officially etched his name alongside Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik, becoming only the third Pakistani cricketer to surpass 3,000 runs in T20 International cricket.

The milestone came during a high-stakes encounter where Rizwan’s consistency once again anchored the top order. While the strike rate debates often follow him, the numbers tell a different story: he reached the landmark in significantly fewer innings than most of his contemporaries, cementing his role as the backbone of Pakistan’s T20 lineup.

Babar Azam remains the leading run-scorer for the country in the format, holding a record that seems unlikely to be challenged soon. Shoaib Malik, the veteran of the game, sits comfortably in the second spot, having accumulated his runs over a career spanning two decades. Rizwan’s entry into this exclusive club highlights a shift in Pakistan’s white-ball approach over the last five years, where the top order has been tasked with carrying the bulk of the scoring load.

The pressure to maintain this scoring pace is immense. With Pakistan’s T20 side currently undergoing a period of transition and tactical scrutiny, Rizwan’s ability to anchor an innings remains his most valuable currency. Critics often point to his initial boundary-hitting frequency, but his ability to rotate the strike and stay until the death overs has been the difference between a total of 150 and 180 in countless matches.

“It’s an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as legends like Babar and Malik,” Rizwan told reporters following the match. He kept the sentiment brief, shifting the focus immediately to the team’s collective performance rather than his individual achievement.

The statistical reality is clear: Pakistan’s T20 success is heavily tethered to this trio. When one of them fails, the middle order is frequently exposed, highlighting a long-standing dependency issue that the selection committee has yet to solve.

As the team looks toward the next major ICC tournament, the reliance on Rizwan’s consistency is not just a tactical choice—it is a necessity. Whether this trio can continue to carry the burden remains the central question for Pakistan’s cricket hierarchy. For now, Rizwan has his place in the record books, and the team has its anchor.
