Morocco is set to experience a shift to colder and stormier weather on Sunday, with widespread rain, snowfall and strong winds expected across several regions. The General Directorate of Meteorology issued an alert covering many northern, eastern and mountainous areas.
Rain and occasional thunderstorms are forecast for the plains north of Essaouira, the Rif region, the Saiss area, the Phosphate Plateau, Oulmès, the Mediterranean coast, and the High and Middle Atlas, along with nearby areas. Light rain may also reach the Souss region.
Snowfall is expected on the High and Middle Atlas peaks, as well as parts of the Rif and eastern high plateaus, above elevations of 1,700 meters. Temperatures will significantly drop, bringing cold to very cold conditions in the northern regions, mountains and high plateaus.
Strong wind gusts are likely along the central and southern coasts and in the Atlas Mountains. Minimum temperatures will range from -3°C to 3°C in mountainous areas, while southern and central regions will remain relatively mild. Sea conditions will vary from calm to rough depending on the location.
