A brand-new Harry Potter tabletop RPG and board game hybrid, Defenders of Hogwarts, has officially been announced by MinaLima — the famous graphic design studio behind many iconic visuals from the Harry Potter films.
The upcoming game is being developed in collaboration with award-winning designer David Waterman and licensed by Warner Bros. Discovery. The story is set during the final days before Lord Voldemort’s invasion of Hogwarts, placing players directly in the middle of the legendary battle between good and evil.
Gameplay Details
The game supports 2 to 5 players aged 13 and above, with matches expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes. Players can either defend Hogwarts as loyal students or secretly join the Dark Forces working from inside the castle.
Unlike traditional Harry Potter board games, Defenders of Hogwarts introduces hidden loyalties, social deduction mechanics, spell-casting, artifact collection, and strategic exploration across Hogwarts grounds.
Why Fans Are Excited
Fans are particularly excited because MinaLima created many famous Harry Potter film props, including the Marauder’s Map, Hogwarts acceptance letters, and The Daily Prophet newspaper. Their involvement means the game will feature authentic movie-style artwork and collectible-quality design elements.
The game is expected to launch on Kickstarter later this year, with a limited release planned for late 2026 before a wider global release in Spring 2027.
