Islamabad: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has officially commenced oil production from a newly developed well in Sindh’s Sanghar district, marking another milestone in Pakistan’s efforts to enhance domestic energy production and reduce dependence on imported petroleum.
According to the company, the newly operational well has started producing crude oil after successfully completing drilling, testing, and development activities. The production will be integrated into OGDCL’s existing field infrastructure to ensure efficient transportation and processing.
OGDCL stated that the new production will contribute to strengthening the country’s indigenous oil output and support Pakistan’s energy security at a time when the nation is striving to reduce its import bill and improve energy self-sufficiency.
Company officials said the project reflects OGDCL’s commitment to exploring and developing the country’s hydrocarbon resources using modern technology and operational expertise. They added that continued investment in exploration and production activities is essential to meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demand.
Energy experts believe the additional oil output from the Sanghar field will help increase domestic crude production, support the national economy, and create employment opportunities in the region. They also noted that sustained exploration efforts are vital for minimizing reliance on imported fuel.
OGDCL remains Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company and continues to expand its operations across the country through new discoveries and field development projects.
