Pakistan has sought Singapore’s support for the safe repatriation of Pakistani and Iranian nationals aboard vessels seized by United States authorities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said he spoke with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and requested assistance for the return of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian seafarers currently near Singaporean waters.
Dar said he also discussed the matter with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, adding that Pakistan and Iran remain in close coordination over the issue. Pakistan has also offered to facilitate the safe return of Iranian nationals to Iran through Pakistan.
The development comes days after Pakistan facilitated the transfer of crew members from a US-seized Iranian vessel, describing the move as a confidence-building measure amid regional tensions.
Officials said efforts are focused on ensuring the safety of the seafarers and arranging their repatriation through diplomatic channels.
