Islamabad: Pakistan has achieved another milestone in the field of science as a Pakistani student won a silver medal at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2026, held in Vilnius, Lithuania. The international competition brought together talented biology students from more than 75 countries.

Pakistani student Hassan Atif Cheema from International School Lahore (Legacy Campus) secured the silver medal, showcasing exceptional performance in one of the world’s most prestigious biology competitions. Another team member, Muhammad Mutahir from Karachi Grammar School, Karachi, received a merit certificate for his outstanding participation.

The International Biology Olympiad evaluates students through challenging theoretical and practical biology examinations, testing their knowledge, analytical skills, and understanding of life sciences.

The achievement has been welcomed as a proud moment for Pakistan’s education and science community, highlighting the talent and potential of young Pakistani students in international academic competitions.

Education experts said such accomplishments demonstrate the importance of promoting science education, research opportunities, and talent development programs for students across the country.

KARACHI: MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal has strongly criticised what he described as the continued injustice and deprivation faced by Karachi, announcing that his party will now take to the streets to raise its voice for the city’s rights. Speaking on the issue, Mustafa Kamal expressed concerns over the treatment of Karachi and the alleged failure to provide the city with its due share of resources, development and basic services. He said the people of Karachi had endured years of neglect and could no longer remain silent. The MQM-P leader stressed that Karachi plays a vital role in Pakistan’s economy and contributes significantly to the national exchequer. Despite this contribution, he claimed that the city continues to face serious challenges, including poor infrastructure, inadequate municipal services, traffic problems, water shortages and other civic issues. Mustafa Kamal said his party would intensify its political and public efforts to highlight Karachi’s problems. He announced that the MQM-P would organise street protests and mobilise citizens to demand the city’s rights. The announcement marks a shift towards a more confrontational public campaign by the party on Karachi-related issues. MQM-P leaders have repeatedly called for greater administrative and financial powers for the city and a fairer distribution of resources. The party’s decision to take to the streets could lead to increased political activity in Karachi as the MQM-P seeks to pressure the federal and provincial governments to address the city’s longstanding problems.
