LOS ANGELES — Paramount+ has officially announced that Lioness Season 3 will premiere on Sunday, August 2, 2026. The highly anticipated return of Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed espionage thriller ends a two-year hiatus following a grueling, globe-spanning production pipeline.
Filming for the third block commenced in October 2025 and concluded in late March 2026. Transitioning from the international backdrops of Spain and Africa featured in previous seasons, the crew anchored primary production within Texas, capturing extensive sequences across Fort Worth and Dallas. Leading star Zoe Saldaña characterized the shoot as “very demanding” and “epic,” reflecting the intense physical and emotional toll of the new narrative arc.
According to the official synopsis released by the streaming platform, the upcoming season intensifies the pressure on the programmatic infrastructure:
“Hidden networks, foreign operatives, and personal betrayals collide. Joe walks the line between duty and home as unseen forces circle her world. Patterns appear where they shouldn’t, names vanish, and paths rearrange. Guided by Kaitlyn and Westfield, Joe confronts enemies operating in the shadows, leaving her to reckon with a war that now reaches into every part of her life.”
The narrative thrust makes the shadow war highly personal for Joe McNamara, forcing her to confront evolving domestic challenges while navigating external operational theater. Saldaña returns to helm the series as McNamara alongside her executive producing partner Nicole Kidman, who reprises her role as senior CIA supervisor Kaitlyn Meade.
The premium ensemble cast features returning heavyweights including Morgan Freeman as Secretary of State Edwin Mullins, Michael Kelly as CIA Deputy Director Byron Westfield, and Laysla De Oliveira as Cruz Manuelos. The roster is rounded out by Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Genesis Rodriguez, and Hannah Love Lanier. Season 3 also introduces Yellowstone veteran Ian Bohen as Grady, a highly disciplined Delta Force operator and K9 handler, alongside newcomer Elizaveta Neretin.
Originally debuting on July 23, 2023, under the title Special Ops: Lioness, the franchise initially garnered a mixed 54% critical reception on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Season 2 engineered a massive critical turnaround in October 2024, surging to a 90% approval rating and breaking platform viewership records. Following its formal renewal in August 2025, the series has cemented itself as a cornerstone of Sheridan’s vast television portfolio, which currently runs concurrent with Yellowstone spinoffs and Tulsa King.
