Parents Demand Action Against Schools Charging Illegal Annual Fees

ISLAMABAD:Parents in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have urged authorities to take strict action against private schools allegedly charging annual admission, re-admission, and other additional fees at the beginning of every academic session.

Parents claim that several private institutions are demanding between Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 50,000 when students move to the next class, in addition to their regular monthly tuition fees. They argue that these charges are being collected under different names despite regulations governing private educational institutions.

One parent reported paying Rs. 30,000 per child in annual charges and claimed that the school’s fees had increased by 40 percent this year without a satisfactory explanation. Another parent said she paid Rs. 75,000 for two children at the start of the new academic session, even though both had already been studying at the same school for three years.

Parents have also alleged that some schools withhold examination results and roll number slips if annual charges are not paid on time. They say such practices create additional difficulties for students and place further financial pressure on families already struggling with rising living costs.

The parents have called on the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) to investigate complaints, review school fee structures, and take action against institutions found violating the rules. They have also demanded refunds of illegally collected amounts, a uniform fee policy, and a transparent complaint-handling system.

Parents believe that regular inspections and strict enforcement of regulations are necessary to prevent unjustified charges and protect students from being affected by disputes over school fees.
