A new polio case has been reported from District Tank in South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the National Institute of Health’s Polio Laboratory, the virus was detected in a 10 month old child. With this case, the total number of polio cases reported in the country this year has risen to 18.
The National Emergency Operations Center (EOC) stated that every unvaccinated child remains vulnerable to the poliovirus, and the only effective way to prevent polio is repeated vaccination.
The institution has urged parents to ensure their children receive polio drops during every immunization campaign.
The EOC further stated that special focus is being placed on South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to eliminate the virus. A new action plan is currently being prepared for the region.
