Polio Virus Confirmed in 40 Sewage Samples Nationwide

Polio virus has been confirmed in 40 sewage samples collected across the country, while a nationwide polio campaign will be conducted from February 2 to 8.

‎According to sources, 127 sewage samples from across the country were sent to the National Institute of Health, which were collected in December 2025.

‎Out of these, 40 sewage samples tested positive for the polio virus, while 87 samples were reported negative. Sindh recorded the highest number, with polio virus detected in 23 sewage samples.

‎Sources said that polio virus was detected in six sewage samples from Punjab, eight from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and two from Balochistan, while in the federal capital Islamabad, four samples were negative and one was reported positive.

‎No polio virus was found in sewage samples collected from Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

‎According to the National Emergency Operations Center, the national anti polio campaign will be held across the country from February 2 to 8, during which more than 45 million children will be administered polio drops. During the seven day national campaign, more than 400,000 polio workers will perform their duties.
