KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting has been postponed until tomorrow, but not before approving proposed amendments to Article 243 of the Constitution.

Addressing a press briefing after the session, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that the CEC had rejected all but one point of the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment.

He revealed that a delegation from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had approached the PPP to seek its support for the amendment, but the party had decided not to endorse it.

Bilawal stated that the CEC had approved only the government’s proposed changes to Article 243, which relates to the command and structure of the armed forces, while rejecting the rest of the suggested amendments outright.

He further added that the PPP had turned down the proposal to alter the National Finance Commission (NFC) formula, stressing that any new constitutional court should ensure equal representation from all four provinces.

Bilawal announced that the CEC would reconvene after Friday prayers to finalize its position on the formation of a constitutional court.
