Unprovoked Firing from Afghan Side at Chaman Border; Pakistan Responds Effectively and Responsibly

Chaman — Afghan forces violated the ceasefire by opening unprovoked fire across the Chaman border, prompting a swift yet restrained response from Pakistan’s security forces, officials confirmed.

According to the Ministry of Information, the firing incident originated from the Afghan side, and Pakistan’s troops responded in a “professional and responsible manner,” successfully bringing the situation under control while maintaining the ceasefire.

The ministry strongly rejected Kabul’s allegations regarding the border clash, emphasizing that Pakistan remained fully committed to ongoing dialogue aimed at ensuring lasting peace along the shared frontier.

The incident occurred as officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan resumed critical talks in Istanbul, seeking to extend and solidify the temporary ceasefire established after last month’s deadly border skirmishes.

Diplomatic sources told that the negotiations — attended by senior military, intelligence, and diplomatic representatives — were being facilitated by mediators from friendly countries.

Both sides are expected to review progress made in earlier meetings and finalize a monitoring mechanism to prevent future ceasefire violations.

Officials in Islamabad reiterated that Pakistan’s position remains unchanged: Afghan soil must not be used for any activity that threatens Pakistan’s security.
