The Punjab School Education Department has directed schools across the province to restrict unnecessary outdoor activities as part of a pre-smog action plan aimed at protecting students from the health effects of air pollution. The measures will remain in place until September 2026.
Under the new instructions, schools must check the Air Quality Index (AQI) before allowing students to participate in outdoor exercise or physical activities. Outdoor sports should also be avoided when smog conditions are present.
Schools in areas experiencing unhealthy air quality have further been advised to limit unnecessary travel and outdoor visits. They have also been instructed to keep doors and windows closed during smog to reduce students’ exposure to polluted air.
School heads have been directed to ensure that all precautionary measures are properly implemented as Punjab prepares for the upcoming smog season.
