The Sindh government has rejected allegations regarding the results of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2026, maintaining that candidates from Karachi performed better than students from other divisions of the province.
The Sindh Health Department has submitted its response to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC), stating that an analysis of examination results and district-wise data does not support claims that Karachi students performed poorly.
According to the department, 33,336 candidates appeared for the examination across Sindh. Of these, 57.96 percent secured 90 or more marks.
Karachi recorded the highest average score among the province’s divisions, with an average of 107.67 marks. Out of 9,505 candidates who appeared from Karachi, 66.98 percent scored 90 or more marks, while 57.78 percent obtained at least 99 marks.
The department also reported that 55.04 percent of candidates from Sukkur, 54.50 percent from Larkana, 53.62 percent from Shaheed Benazirabad and 52.34 percent from Hyderabad scored 90 or more marks.
The government further maintained that admissions to public medical colleges are allocated according to district-based rules. Seats designated for Karachi remain reserved for candidates holding the relevant Karachi domicile, regardless of higher scores achieved by candidates from other districts.
The controversy emerged after complaints about the examination results, including allegations on social media that the question paper had been leaked. The PM&DC had previously asked the Sindh government to investigate the complaints and submit a report.
The Sindh Health Department has argued that candidates should not be viewed with suspicion because of their domicile or high scores. It has urged stakeholders to avoid politicising the results while concerns surrounding the examination are addressed.
