The Punjab government has announced that more than 12,000 additional families will receive housing support under its ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ programme, as it expands the scheme aimed at helping low-income households build homes on their own land.

Official figures say the second installment has already been released to over 12,000 families for house construction. According to the Punjab government, the programme has so far provided loans to more than 25,500 families, with total disbursements exceeding Rs27.43 billion. Officials say over 22,600 houses are in the final stages of completion, while 1,806 homes have already been completed under the scheme.

The scheme offers interest-free construction loans for houses of one to five marlas in urban areas and for plot owners of one to ten marlas in villages, with applications accepted online through the government’s portal. Punjab says the broader target of the initiative is to deliver 100,000 affordable houses and apartments across the province over four and a half years.

The expansion is being presented by the provincial government as part of a wider push to improve access to housing for lower-income families, amid rising construction costs and growing demand for affordable home ownership in Punjab.
