A seven-year-old boy was killed after being run over by a heavy vehicle in Karachi, in yet another fatal accident involving commercial traffic in the city.
Police said the driver was arrested after the incident and the vehicle was taken into custody. In one recent case reported from Karachi’s Mehran Town area, traffic police said the child was fatally struck when a truck driver was reversing the vehicle.
In another similar incident in Manghopir, police said a water tanker hit and killed a seven-year-old boy, who died on the spot, after which the driver was arrested and legal proceedings were started.
Such incidents have intensified concern over the movement of heavy vehicles in Karachi’s residential areas, where accidents involving dumpers and tankers have repeatedly led to deaths and public anger.
