The Punjab Examination Commission for Textbook and Curriculum Authority (PECTA) has released the new 8th Class Smart Syllabus, bringing major relief to students, parents, and teachers across the province.
Under the revised plan, extra content has been removed from all main subjects. In English, Units 2, 3, 8, and 9 have been excluded, while six chapters have been deleted from the Urdu textbook. Mathematics and General Science have also seen reductions, with several topics and exercises taken out to ease the overall burden on students.
The updated syllabus includes new pairing schemes and freshly issued model papers for every subject. Each subject exam will carry 100 marks, including 40 MCQs and 60 long questions, applicable for both Mid-Term and Final-Term exams.
Officials said this step completes the province-wide syllabus streamlining effort following similar updates for Classes 9 and 11. Education experts believe the move will reduce academic pressure and improve learning outcomes for thousands of students in Punjab.
