LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has released more than Rs. 4.08 billion in non-salary funds for government schools across all 36 districts of the province for the 2026-27 financial year.
According to the details, a total of Rs. 4.08875 billion has been allocated for approved non-salary expenditures of primary, elementary and higher secondary schools. The funds will be distributed through cheques via National Bank of Pakistan branches in the respective districts according to a prescribed schedule.
The released amount is specifically earmarked for non-salary expenses and will be utilized throughout the 2026-27 financial year. The funding is separate from salaries and is intended to support the operational needs of government schools.
District-Wise Allocations
Among the major allocations, schools in Faisalabad have received around Rs. 225.97 million, while Bahawalnagar has been allocated approximately Rs. 167.13 million.
Schools in Lahore will receive around Rs. 161.78 million, followed by Bahawalpur with Rs. 144.08 million and Rawalpindi with Rs. 142.08 million.
Meanwhile, Sialkot has been allocated Rs. 138.01 million and Gujranwala Rs. 129.16 million.
The district-wise distribution is part of the provincial government’s broader allocation of operational funds for government schools during the current financial year.
Focus on School Operations
The release of the non-salary budget is expected to help schools meet their approved operational and other non-salary requirements during the academic year.
The funding comes as Punjab’s School Education Department is also taking several measures to improve the performance and management of public schools. Recently, the department ordered verification of student enrollment records across government schools and has been reviewing institutions with critically low enrollment.
The latest allocation therefore comes at a time when the provincial government is focusing on both school resources and education outcomes, including student enrollment, academic performance and effective use of public funds.
