The Punjab government has issued a final deadline to private schools to comply with the legal requirement of providing free education to at least 10 percent of students from underprivileged backgrounds.
The directive was issued by the School Education Department following reports that many private institutions had failed to implement the quota despite repeated instructions. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against schools that do not comply within the specified timeframe.
Under Punjab’s education regulations, registered private schools are required to reserve a portion of admissions for deserving students and waive their tuition fees. The policy is intended to improve access to quality education for children from low-income families and promote greater educational inclusion.
Education officials have instructed district authorities to monitor compliance and submit reports on schools that fail to meet the requirement. Non-compliant institutions may face penalties, including fines and regulatory action.
The government says the move is aimed at ensuring that all children, regardless of their financial circumstances, have the opportunity to receive quality education and benefit from educational resources available in private schools.
