RAWALPINDI, November 2025 Parents in Rawalpindi have strongly opposed the administration’s decision to start schools an hour earlier during peak winter, citing health risks from cold, dense fog, and pre-sunrise travel.
The timing change is part of a traffic management plan near Kachehri Chowk and coincides with major construction projects, including an underpass and overhead bridge.
Dozens of parents have submitted a written appeal to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding restoration of the previous school timings of 8:45 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. They warned that early morning exposure increases the risk of fever, cold, cough, and ear infections among children.
Parents also highlighted the shortage of school vans and limited public transport in early hours, causing attendance problems and delays. Teachers noted that cold mornings and lack of rest are affecting students’ classroom performance.
Parents warned that if the early start is not reversed, they may transfer their children to private schools. They urged officials to consider adjusting government office hours rather than changing school schedules during harsh winter conditions.
