KARACHI: In a bold counter-move against the pension reforms by the government, a number of associations of employees of the public sector here on Saturday met under the banner of Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) and formed an Action Committee to protect the pensions. This meeting, chaired by SPLA Central President Munawar Abbas was taken at DJ Sindh government science college library.
The heads of various associations such as SPLA, SESSA (Prof. Syed Rehan Ali), FAPUASA (Dr. Mohsin), SENWA (Nazar Hussain Jalalani), P.T. Alif (Mohammad Amin), GAWAS (Rais Khan), SCNTWA (Safdar Iqbal), APCA Jam Saqi Group (Ijaz Bhutto), Tanzeem-e-Asatiza (Dr. Rafiq-ul-Islam) and many others severely criticized the pension reform They referred to it as unfair and exploitive to the employees who worked under the government.
The panel decided it would organize a province wide protest movement after August 14. In order to show solidarity to the action, the August 18 will be turned into the Black Day across all government offices and learning institutes. Moreover, SPLA will organize a significant leadership summit of all employee associations on August 19 to cement the future plan of action regarding a protest.
Among those who participated were Adeel Khawaja, Prof. Asif Munir, Shabana Afzal, Dr. Abdul Basit, Prof. Maroof Bin Rauf among others promised unity in face of any effort to destabilize the rights of the public employees.
