Rising Chenab Waters Threaten Shershah Bund in Multan

Multan is facing a critical flood situation as rising waters of the Chenab River pose a serious threat to the Shershah Bund. Local authorities have initiated emergency evacuations in nearby areas to protect residents from potential devastation.

According to the Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Kathia, floodwaters released from Trimmu Barrage have already entered Multan. He confirmed that another massive flood wave, carrying nearly 575,000 cusecs of water, is moving towards the district, raising concerns of widespread damage.

The crisis has intensified as India released additional water into the Sutlej River, prompting high flood alerts downstream of Harike and Ferozepur barrages. This development has heightened the flood risk across South Punjab, particularly in Multan and its adjoining settlements.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas to move to safer locations immediately, stressing that timely evacuation is essential to avoid loss of life. Rescue teams and relief agencies are on high alert to respond to any emergency.
