Security forces killed at least seven terrorists on Friday during a highly successful targeted operation in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The intelligence-based operation took place in the Ghora Baka Khel area of Baka Khel tehsil, targeting a vehicle loaded with a heavy cache of weapons and explosive materials. Acting on credible information regarding suspicious militant movements, security forces utilized a quadcopter to strike the vehicle, which was parked near a government school. The resulting explosion completely destroyed the vehicle, killing all seven to eight terrorists inside on the spot. According to security sources, the vehicle was carrying significant weaponry, including a 12.7mm machine gun, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), and mortar shells. Following the strike, security forces launched a comprehensive search and clearance operation in the area to eliminate any secondary threats.
Bannu district has experienced a notable surge in militant violence in recent months, with both civilian populations and law enforcement personnel frequently coming under attack. This successful strike follows a series of recent security incidents in the region; just days earlier on Wednesday, terrorists utilized a quadcopter to drop two explosive devices on the premises of the Haved police station, resulting in minor injuries to two Frontier Corps personnel. Earlier this month, a militant commander was killed alongside two others, and an attempt was made to destroy a critical link bridge. Furthermore, a fierce clash last month involving law enforcers, a local peace committee, and militants resulted in the elimination of 25 terrorists, while two police officers and two civilians tragically lost their lives. Investigations into the latest network dynamics are currently underway.
