Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has said that there has been a significant improvement in environmental sample results, with 28 out of 29 samples reported as negative.
According to details, Mustafa Kamal stated that the highest number of negative environmental samples has been recorded since August 2023. There has been a significant decline in the circulation of the polio virus in the Karachi Division, where 11 out of 12 environmental samples tested negative for the first time.
For the first time, all 17 environmental samples from other divisions of Sindh have also been reported negative. Mustafa Kamal said that the government is utilizing all available resources to achieve the complete eradication of the virus. The 17 negative environmental samples from Sindh demonstrate that the anti polio strategy is producing positive results.
He further stated that the end of polio virus circulation in Qambar and Kashmore after a long period is an encouraging development, while the consecutive second month of negative environmental samples in Badin and Mirpurkhas is also a significant achievement.
The Federal Minister said that a special anti-polio campaign will be conducted in Karachi during July 2026. He added that the commitment to a polio free Pakistan and protecting every child from polio remains the government’s top priority.
