The Sindh government has announced a public holiday for schools and colleges across the province on Monday, November 9, 2026, to mark the birth anniversary of national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
According to official notifications issued by the provincial education departments, public and private educational institutions under their administrative control will remain closed on the occasion of Iqbal Day. All academic activities will remain suspended for the day.
The announcement follows the federal government’s decision to observe November 9 as a nationwide public holiday. The date has also been included in the federal government’s annual holiday schedule for 2026.
As November 9 falls on a Monday, students and teachers who already have weekends off will enjoy three consecutive holidays from November 7 to November 9.
Educational activities are expected to resume on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, according to the regular academic schedule.
Iqbal Day is observed every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who was born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot. He is remembered for his contributions to poetry, philosophy and the intellectual movement that inspired the creation of Pakistan.
