KARACHI, August 11: Inspector General Sindh Prisons & Corrections Service, Malik Muhammad Yousaf Majoka, has issued a clear directive that no unlawful treatment of prisoners will be tolerated under any circumstances. The statement came during a virtual Zoom meeting with all prison superintendents across Sindh, where Majoka emphasized that the prison system’s mission is reformation, not revenge.
The IG Prisons underscored that detainees are in custody to serve their sentences, not to suffer inhumane treatment. He instructed officers to respect the legal and human rights of inmates and to work towards their rehabilitation.
Key directives issued include:
Maintain strict compliance with prison laws and standard operating procedures.
Ensure humane treatment of prisoners, without abuse of authority.
Strengthen the internal monitoring system to prevent any mistreatment
Take immediate disciplinary action against staff involved in misconduct.
Majoka warned that any violation of these instructions would result in strict disciplinary action. He stressed that these reforms are aimed at ensuring fair treatment, protecting human rights, and improving the prison system.
