Following the emergence of Nipah virus cases in India, the Director General Health Sindh has issued an advisory and directed authorities to take precautionary measures.
According to the Sindh Health Department, the situation regarding the Nipah virus is being closely monitored, and the DG Health Sindh has issued an advisory with instructions for precautionary and protective measures.
The advisory directs all public and private hospitals to remain alert and to ensure implementation of the guidelines issued by the Federal Ministry of Health. So far, no case of the Nipah virus has been reported in Pakistan.
Nipah virus is a deadly zoonotic disease that can be transmitted to humans. Its initial symptoms include fever, headache, cough, body aches, and vomiting.
Medical experts said that the Nipah virus can have various causes and advised the public to consume fresh fruits and fresh food during this season, and to avoid consuming cut fruits or vegetables that have been kept for several hours.
Medical experts warned that food items should be washed before use, as the Nipah virus can cause severe respiratory illness and inflammation of the brain.
