Karachi, June 2, 2025 — A special convocation organized by Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) took place at the Governor House Sindh, where His Excellency Hamid Abbas Ali Al-Mashhadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degree. The recognition honored his outstanding diplomatic services, promotion of regional peace, and efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Iraq and Pakistan.
Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, addressed the ceremony and praised the expressions of solidarity and support from friendly nations like Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and others in the face of current global challenges. He commended the growing relationship between Pakistan and Iraq and appreciated Ambassador Hamid Abbas Ali Al-Mashhadi’s pivotal role in enhancing diplomatic ties.
Chancellor of Sir Syed University, Akbar Ali Khan, remarked, “SSUET has always played a role in promoting knowledge and diplomatic relations. Ambassador Al-Mashhadi’s efforts have further solidified the friendly and educational ties between the two nations. This honorary degree is a recognition of his exceptional diplomatic contributions, and we hope that the relations between Iraq and Pakistan will continue to grow stronger.”
The prestigious event was graced by the presence of notable foreign dignitaries, including Bakhit Ateek Al-Rumaithi, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates; Cemal Sangu from Türkiye; and Sami Abdullah Al-Khanjari, Consul General of the Sultanate of Oman. Their attendance underscored the significance of international diplomatic engagement and mutual cooperation.
In addition to the Iraqi ambassador, honorary D.Litt. degrees were also awarded to Sami Abdullah Al-Khanjari’s wife, Maryam Ali Mohammed; prominent industrialist Shahbaz Zaheer; and Farukh Mehtab, in recognition of their outstanding contributions in various fields.
Distinguished guests present at the event hailed the convocation as a testament to the strong diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Iraq. The ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor of SSUET Prof. Dr. Afzal Haque, Registrar Syed Sarfaraz Ali, and several key social figures.
The event concluded with the presentation of honorary shields to the guests, and the university administration expressed their gratitude for the successful organization of the convocation.
