Dera Ismail Khan, January 23: At least six people were killed and seven others sustained injuries in a suicide blast that occurred during a wedding ceremony near Qureshi Mor in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday night, police and rescue officials confirmed.

According to police, the suicide bomber detonated explosives inside a room at the residence of South Waziristan Contractors Union President Noor Hassan Mehsud, where his nephew’s wedding ceremony was underway. Guests were present at the venue when the explosion caused the roof of the house to collapse, resulting in casualties.

Rescue 1122 officials said that emergency response teams, including ambulances and disaster response units, were dispatched immediately after the incident. The injured and deceased were shifted to DHQ Hospital, where some of the wounded are reported to be in critical condition.

Police confirmed that the head of the suicide bomber was recovered from the scene, conclusively establishing the nature of the attack.

The deceased have been identified as Wahidullah Mehsud alias Jagri Mehsud, Advocate Abdul Majeed Lagari, Rehmanullah (contractor), Shehzad, Inayatullah, and Wahid alias Chhota Wahid.

The injured include Waris Khan, Noor Alam Mehsud, Tauheedullah, Rehman Khan, Sohail Khan Barki, and Nazirullah.

Security forces have cordoned off the area, while police and law enforcement agencies have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
