The water inflow at Kotri Barrage on the Indus River has swelled sharply over the past 24 hours, rising by about 12,000 cusecs and pushing the total flow to nearly 420,000 cusecs. This has triggered a medium-level flood condition at the barrage and led to serious inundation in adjacent low-lying areas.
Villages in Thatta, Jamshoro, Sakrand, and Sakrand Mid Mangli are among the hardest hit. Floodwaters have breached embankments, entering houses and fields and submerging acres of rice, cotton, banana, papaya, and other crops. In Sujawal district, protective embankments are under intense pressure, prompting local authorities to set up tent camps for displaced families.
In addition, the flood situation is straining infrastructure and mobility. In Jalalpur Pirwala, floods from the Chenab and Sutlej remain persistent, and dozens of settlements are still submerged. Repair work is underway on a breach at the Noraja Bhutta bund, and the M-5 motorway from Multan to Jhangra remains closed for the 14th consecutive day. Repairs are also ongoing on damaged Sui gas pipelines, affecting wide regions including Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur, while assessments of total losses have begun.
